Companies and projects

Jørgen M. Clausen is known as an entrepreneur supporting and starting new companies and projects both in Denmark and Internationally. He has always been a frontrunner and a role model when it comes to innovative ideas and entrepreneurship.

Creating jobs in Southern Jutland, particularly on Als has always been important to Jørgen M. Clausen. He continues to support businesses and projects when he can see it will add value to the community and to Danfoss.

Danfoss has a long and proud history as a family company. Danfoss was founded in 1933 by Jørgen M. Clausen’s farther; Mads Clausen. From 1996 to 2008 Jørgen M. Clausen was President and CEO of Danfoss building on the foundation created by his father.

Jørgen M. Clausen still walks the hallways of the headquarters in Nordborg. After his resignation as Chairman of the Board of Directors in March 2022, he continues to be available to the company and represent the family to employees and business
associates.

Danfoss provides energy-efficient technologies for air conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motor controls, and is also one of the world’s leading suppliers of hydraulic components and electronic controls for vehicles used within the construction, agriculture and road building industries. Danfoss is a supplier of solutions for renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.

With Danfoss’ deep roots in the production of compressors within refrigeration, it was natural for Danfoss, under Jørgen M. Clausen’s leadership, to invest in Turbocor® Compressors.

When Danfoss invested in Turbocor it was perceived as a wild technology bet. That a motor shaft could levitate in a magnetic field, eliminating the need for traditional oiled bearings, was not seen before. Jørgen saw the vision and market potential, in 2013 Danfoss took full ownership.

This is a good example of how the Danfoss DNA and entrepreneurship has helped create solutions for the future.

Danfoss Silicon Power is another good example of a visionary approach to technology and possibilities.

In 1953 Mads Clausen hired his first electronics engineer and later Jørgen M. Clausen an electronic engineer himself, contributed to making the Danfoss Silicon Power vision a reality.

It all began with the VLT frequency converters in 1968 saving a motor’s energy consumption. Frequency converters are used in a wide range of applications such as heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and water treatment plants.

In 1998 Danfoss Silicon Power was established, and it was decided to produce the power part as one subunit, as a power module.

Today, Danfoss Silicon Power is a leading producer of power modules for the automotive industry and of power converters for production of renewable energy.

The Man on the Moon competition was initiated by Jørgen M. Clausen in 2004 and it has been running almost every year ever since.

The aim is to stimulate an innovation culture inside the company – inspiring people to become entrepreneurs. At the same time, it is an opportunity for colleagues from all over the world to share and inspire each other, working together across businesses and regions.

Over the years, the competition has had different focus areas such as digital tools, additive manufacturing, clean tech, innovation from the core and buildings in the future. Many winning projects have been developed and translated into concrete solutions.

This initiative underlines that creativity and innovation is the foundation and essence of the Danfoss DNA.

In 2005 Jørgen M. Clausen opened “Danfoss Universe” with the support of his wife Annette Clausen. The dream was (and continues to be) to help the new generation derive pleasure from nature and technology and inspire more people to become entrepreneurs.

The park is a place where you can see, learn and experience how technology works and thereby plant seeds in the next generation of engineers, mechanics, software developers and inventers.

Apart from giving young people a new and fun experience with science and technology, the park was deliberately placed on Als to help and support development in the region.

The world’s first commercial energy production technology based on osmosis.

The company develop and commercialize the concept of using osmotic power as a renewable energy source in which high salinity waters and freshwater is mixed to release energy.

The solutions will support the transition to a clean and carbon neutral energy production.

Jørgen M. Clausen had the idea to translate the known concept of a gearbox into the hydraulic world. PISTONPOWER has turned this idea into highly efficient and versatile amplifiers.

The PISTONPOWER cartridge amplifier makes it possible to amplify hydraulic force without adding extra components to machine design – at the same time it improves the overall effectiveness of any machine.

The amplifier is integrated into the piston rod removing the need for external connector hoses. It allows pressure and force to be increased while reducing the size and weight of the machine. It can create high pressure when it is required. Like changing gears, it can switch and perform at higher speed when the workload is low.
